We are a small studio in Berlin, making illustrated things in Urdu for children who live between two worlds.
Our children grow up in English — at school, on screens, with their friends. Urdu becomes the language of home, of grandparents, of somewhere else. We want to change that. Not through obligation, but through beauty.
Red Kite Press was born from a simple question: what if Urdu felt as joyful as the languages children already love? What if it arrived in the post, illustrated, alive — and they wanted to hold onto it?
Every print is beautiful enough to frame. The Urdu is part of the design — not a label, not a lesson, but something that looks like it belongs.
We don't teach Urdu. We surround children with it — through mangoes and monsoons, Eid and basant, the things Pakistani families actually live and remember.
There is something irreplaceable about a letter. Addressed to your child. Illustrated. Stamped. Something they will want to open themselves.
Every print in the Red Kite Press collection is hand-illustrated in Procreate — watercolour textures, gouache brushwork, careful Urdu lettering. We are not printing stock art. Every letter, every fruit, every animal is drawn by hand for this project and this community.
We pack every envelope ourselves in Berlin. Each mailing is checked, stamped, and posted to families in the UK, Canada, and the United States — diaspora communities keeping their children close to a language that matters.
